Our History

Botanicactus was founded by Jean Marc in 1989, whose passion for plants stems from a family tradition. After settling in Mallorca, he decided to realize his dream by creating this unique garden with three areas to explore: the Mallorcan garden, the cactus garden, and the wetland area by the lake.

 

Maintaining this oasis has not always been easy. Just three months after our grand opening, Mallorca suffered historic torrential rains that caused terrible flooding in the park, seriously endangering our cacti (which do not tolerate stagnant water in their roots).

 

To save the garden and adapt to the extreme Mediterranean climate, we had to redesign the terrain. We transformed our lake into Botanicactus's great "protector." The entire estate is designed with a strategic slope so that, in the event of torrential rain, the water flows quickly into the central lake.

 

That's why, during periods of high rainfall, we intentionally keep the lake level very low. It acts as a giant safety reservoir, collecting excess water and preventing the desert area from flooding. So, if you visit us and see the lake is low, now you know it's there to protect our plants!

 

We like to be transparent with those who visit us: Botanicactus is a completely private and family-run initiative.

 

Unlike other large institutional parks or grounds, we receive no public funding or government subsidies to maintain these 5 hectares of nature. Everything you see—the trail maintenance, the lake upkeep, the cleaning, and the health of thousands of plants—is funded exclusively by your visits and the daily work of our family.
